Dune Legacy is a free strategy game released under Open-source engine (GPL-2.0+) · standalone PlayBound-tested package. It runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, needs about 50 MB of disk space, and requires no account, payment or trial. On a computer, the fastest route is the PlayBound Launcher. On a phone or tablet, use the official store or site instead.

The current package we tested launches without locating or purchasing a separate Dune II installation. The engine is GPL-licensed; upstream documentation separately notes that original PAK artwork, audio, and scenario data retain their own copyrights.
The Dune Legacy engine is free and open source under GPL-2.0-or-later, and the PlayBound-tested package needs no separate base-game purchase. PlayBound does not claim to relicense any original copyrighted assets.
Yes. Dune Legacy supports network multiplayer and LAN-style sessions. Keep every player on the same build and map; PlayBound Connect can provide a shared private network when normal discovery or direct routing gets in the way.
Maps are simple .ini files placed in the single-player or multiplayer map folder. PAK replacements can change data and media, but Dune Legacy does not provide a universal mod loader; deeper rules changes usually need their own build, which PlayBound treats as an edition.
