Question 1

Is RollerCoaster Tycoon free?

Accepted Answer

No. RollerCoaster Tycoon: Deluxe is a paid commercial game. It qualifies for PlayBound as a low-cost value pick with a complete game and no microtransactions, not as a free download.

Question 2

What is included in the Deluxe edition?

Accepted Answer

Deluxe includes the original RollerCoaster Tycoon plus the Corkscrew Follies and Loopy Landscapes expansion content, adding scenarios, rides, shops, and scenery.

Question 3

Does it work on modern Windows PCs?

Accepted Answer

The preserved release is available for Windows, but this remains a 1999 game and compatibility can vary. Windowed modes, compatibility settings, or the OpenRCT2 route can provide a smoother experience.

Question 4

Can I use OpenRCT2 to play it?

Accepted Answer

OpenRCT2 can link an original RollerCoaster Tycoon installation for its scenarios and assets, but OpenRCT2 itself requires legally owned RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 or RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic game files.

Question 5

Is RollerCoaster Tycoon a sandbox game?

Accepted Answer

It has strong sandbox-style building tools, but the core game is a scenario campaign with financial, attendance, and park-value objectives. That structure gives each map a distinct management problem.

Question 6

What hardware does the Deluxe release require?

Accepted Answer

The published minimum asks for a 1.8 GHz processor, 512 MB RAM, a DirectX 7-compatible 3D graphics card, and 2 GB of storage. The bigger concern on a modern PC is operating-system compatibility, not performance.
