Question 1

Is SuperTuxKart free?

Accepted Answer

Yes, entirely. SuperTuxKart is open-source under GPL-3.0 with no purchases, cosmetics or advertising.

Question 2

Does SuperTuxKart have split-screen?

Accepted Answer

Yes, local split-screen for up to four players on one machine, with full gamepad support. It is one of the game's strongest features.

Question 3

Is SuperTuxKart a good Mario Kart alternative?

Accepted Answer

It is the closest free equivalent. Drifting, item boxes, power-ups, split-screen and a story mode are all present, and several tracks are genuinely well designed. Handling is slightly floatier and the presentation is less polished than Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, but it costs nothing and needs no console.

Question 4

Does SuperTuxKart have online multiplayer?

Accepted Answer

Yes, with public servers and no account requirement. Live server and player counts are shown on the SuperTuxKart servers page.

Question 5

Will SuperTuxKart run on a low-end laptop?

Accepted Answer

Yes. It scales down well and runs acceptably on integrated graphics, though a dedicated GPU gives smoother frame rates at higher settings.

Question 6

Does SuperTuxKart have multiplayer?

Accepted Answer

Yes. SuperTuxKart supports up to 8 players. You can join a public community server from the PlayBound server browser, have PlayBound start a dedicated server for your group, and host a game on your own PC. PlayBound Connect handles the setup: start a party with your friends, pick how you want to play, and everyone launches into the same game from the PlayBound launcher, with the dedicated server started for you if you choose one. It also supports LAN play and local split-screen or couch co-op. There is no subscription and no paid multiplayer tier.
