Worth the cost
Free, or regularly available for $15 or less. Good developers deserve to be paid, and optional cosmetics, expansions, and premium extras are welcome. But we won't list games that sell competitive advantages, disguise a trial as free, or charge again to finish the core experience.
Ready to play
Playable and satisfying today. It can be unfinished; it cannot be unfun. We love supporting indie developers, but prototypes, broken releases, and promises of a future game do not make the cut.

About Apex Legends

Apex Legends is Respawn's free squad battle royale, combining Titanfall-adjacent movement with hero abilities and unusually strong communication tools. Sliding, climbing and quick mantles make spaces feel elastic, while the ping system lets a coordinated team share threats, loot and intentions without relying on voice chat.

Each Legend bends a fight in a distinct direction—recon, area control, escape, entry or recovery—but gunplay remains the common language. The best matches are won before the final shots: a squad reads the ring, takes height, preserves armor economy and chooses whether a third-party opportunity is worth exposing its own position.

Apex is demanding in the right ways. Recoil, inventory choices and a growing roster take time to learn, yet the moment-to-moment movement is immediately satisfying. It is also a live service with rotating seasons, cosmetic purchases and balance changes, so recommendations need regular re-verification.

Use the official EA App route on Windows; Steam and Epic are alternatives, not requirements. Easy Anti-Cheat means PlayBound will not install gameplay mods, DLL injectors or cosmetic replacements. The large download, permanent online requirement and steep matchmaking curve are real costs.

PlayBound's read: few competitive shooters make squad information and locomotion feel this good. Bring patient teammates and expect the first dozen drops to be lessons.
