That One Thing
Two thousand units can cross Arrakis, and the interface still lets you command the battle instead of wrestling 1992.
This is Dune Legacy with the good switches already gathered in one place. The PlayBound Edition uses the current standalone Windows build, brings the engine's HD graphics path to the front, and keeps the original pixel-art presentation available when nostalgia wins. It also carries the Super Dune campaign, the established community maps, rebalanced QuantBot AI, and the modern in-game mod editor and loader.
The goal is not to turn Dune II into a different strategy game. It is to make its best modern form the obvious first launch: widescreen battlefields, contemporary unit control, sharper presentation, a less sleepy opponent, and an easy route from campaign to skirmish to multiplayer.
For parties, everyone should use this same edition. Dune Legacy can share the active mod and map with joining players; PlayBound Connect handles the private-network side when router discovery or direct hosting refuses to cooperate. Classic Dune Legacy remains separate and recoverable, so experimenting with PAK overrides or balance files never has to poison the museum piece.
