Step-by-Step Instructions

Register a free account at https://horizonxi.com and verify your email. There is nothing to buy — no retail copy, no Square Enix account, no subscription.

Click Install with PlayBound. It downloads and runs the official HorizonXI launcher installer from the project's GitHub releases.

Open the launcher, choose an install location, and let it download the client. Keep 25 GB free during installation.

Create your character on the HorizonXI website — race, nation and appearance are chosen there, not in-game.

Start the game from the launcher and sign in with your HorizonXI account. Set resolution and enable approved add-ons from the launcher's own settings.
Installs the official HorizonXI launcher (176 MB). The launcher then downloads the Final Fantasy XI client itself — keep 25 GB free while it runs; the finished client is about 16 GB. Register a free account on horizonxi.com first.
25 GB free is needed while the launcher downloads; the finished client settles at about 16 GB. Broadband required. One account per IP address — request an exception in the HorizonXI Discord if two people share a connection.
