A strange survival sandbox where the apocalypse is equal parts cosmic horror, house project and loot chase.
That One Thing
The bizarre creature you captured in a ruined hospital might later farm your crops, generate power or fight beside you.
Once Human is at its best when an unsettling roadside discovery follows you home and becomes part of the machinery keeping your base alive.
Worth the cost
Free, or regularly available for $15 or less. Good developers deserve to be paid, and optional cosmetics, expansions, and premium extras are welcome. But we won't list games that sell competitive advantages, disguise a trial as free, or charge again to finish the core experience.
Ready to play
Playable and satisfying today. It can be unfinished; it cannot be unfun. We love supporting indie developers, but prototypes, broken releases, and promises of a future game do not make the cut.
Tested by PlayBound
We install it, launch it, and play it ourselves. We've spent hours building definitive editions and making multiplayer work, because a store-page claim is not the same as a game we can confidently put in front of you.
That One Thing
Every game needs that one thing we'd excitedly tell our friends about. It might be the mechanics, story, art, soundtrack, controls, community, or the way it brings people together. If it doesn't have one, it doesn't make the catalog.

Once Human is a shared-world survival shooter set after reality has been contaminated by Stardust. Players gather materials, build territory, craft weapons and investigate towns warped by cosmic horror. The familiar survival loop gains personality from Deviations: strange captured entities that can fight, produce resources or automate parts of a base.
Combat mixes third-person gunplay with status builds and boss mechanics. Open-world events, silos and raids give groups escalating targets, while construction tools support homes far more ambitious than a practical bunker. Seasonal scenarios change rules and progression, which keeps the world active but also makes permanence difficult to explain. Important currencies and account-level unlocks persist while scenario-specific progress can reset or transfer under its own rules.
The game is free and sells cosmetics and convenience, including loot-box-style cosmetic systems that deserve scrutiny. It does not require buying campaign access, but menus and seasonal currencies can feel aggressively layered. Performance is demanding, the download is large and server choice matters because characters and friends need compatible scenarios. PlayBound recommends the official PC launcher over Steam and advises reading the current scenario rules before investing heavily in a base.
We picked Once Human because its best systems make survival feel genuinely odd again. Deviations are useful, memorable and woven into both combat and domestic routines. The seasonal structure and monetization need plain warnings, but the free world contains enough invention to justify learning its rules.
