Open-source reconstruction of Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun.
That One Thing
Sending your mammoth into your friend's base when he has no way to defend against it and watching him yell at his computer.
Classic Command & Conquer Tiberian Sun rebuilt from the ground up: crisp modern bgfx graphics, lag-free UDP multiplayer, robust mission scripting, and total fidelity to Westwood's 1999 RTS masterpiece. You can play at native 1440p or 4K with instantaneous bgfx rendering, smooth scrolling, and zero legacy DirectDraw stutter.
Worth the cost
Free, or regularly available for $15 or less. Good developers deserve to be paid, and optional cosmetics, expansions, and premium extras are welcome. But we won't list games that sell competitive advantages, disguise a trial as free, or charge again to finish the core experience.
Ready to play
Playable and satisfying today. It can be unfinished; it cannot be unfun. We love supporting indie developers, but prototypes, broken releases, and promises of a future game do not make the cut.
Tested by PlayBound
We install it, launch it, and play it ourselves. We've spent hours building definitive editions and making multiplayer work, because a store-page claim is not the same as a game we can confidently put in front of you.
That One Thing
Every game needs that one thing we'd excitedly tell our friends about. It might be the mechanics, story, art, soundtrack, controls, community, or the way it brings people together. If it doesn't have one, it doesn't make the catalog.

Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun was the atmospheric pinnacle of Westwood Studios' Tiberium saga. Released in 1999, it immersed players in an eerie eco-dystopian future where terraforming alien Tiberium consumed the Earth while the Global Defense Initiative and Kane's Brotherhood of Nod fought across ion storms, subterranean creep, and walker-dominated skirmishes.
For decades, playing Tiberian Sun on modern Windows systems meant wrestling with broken 16-bit DirectDraw surfaces, sluggish menu frame rates, and obsolete IPX protocol workarounds. OpenTS changes all of that. Rather than patching the legacy executable, OpenTS is a clean, community-led source reconstruction built from Electronic Arts' GPL-released engine code and meticulous reverse engineering.
By replacing DirectDraw with the modern cross-platform bgfx rendering framework, OpenTS runs flawlessly at arbitrary desktop resolutions without display glitches or black screens. Networking has been modernized to direct UDP over port 1234, eliminating the need for IPX encapsulation. Hundreds of vanilla engine limits and bugs — from trigger resolution logic and veterancy armor calculation to vehicle factory exit queues — have been thoroughly fixed.
OpenTS targets the definitive Tiberian Sun 2.03 and Firestorm expansion experience, offering skirmish against AI, original story campaigns, and peer-to-peer multiplayer. It is the gold standard for preserving and playing Tiberian Sun today.
Preserving Westwood's RTS golden era requires more than compatibility wrappers. OpenTS shows what dedicated preservation engineers can accomplish: a faithful, modern, open-source engine that keeps classic Tiberian Sun vibrant, moddable, and playable for decades to come.

OpenTS is an open-source source reconstruction of Electronic Arts' Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun and Firestorm. It rebuilds the game engine as a modern standalone program.
The upstream OpenTS engine requires original game data. PlayBound packages it with the freeware Tiberian Sun 2.03 and Firestorm data from cnc-comm.com, so you do not need to install a separate base game.
OpenTS replaces obsolete 1990s IPX networking with standard UDP networking over port 1234. You can play over local area networks (LAN) or virtual private networks with friends.
The PlayBound package includes the Firestorm game data, campaigns, soundtrack and movies alongside the OpenTS engine.
