Question 1

What is OpenTS?

Accepted Answer

OpenTS is an open-source source reconstruction of Electronic Arts' Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun and Firestorm. It rebuilds the game engine as a modern standalone program.

Question 2

Does OpenTS require original game data?

Accepted Answer

The upstream OpenTS engine requires original game data. PlayBound packages it with the freeware Tiberian Sun 2.03 and Firestorm data from cnc-comm.com, so you do not need to install a separate base game.

Question 3

How does multiplayer work in OpenTS?

Accepted Answer

OpenTS replaces obsolete 1990s IPX networking with standard UDP networking over port 1234. You can play over local area networks (LAN) or virtual private networks with friends.

Question 4

Does OpenTS include the Firestorm expansion?

Accepted Answer

The PlayBound package includes the Firestorm game data, campaigns, soundtrack and movies alongside the OpenTS engine.

Question 5

Does OpenTS have multiplayer?

Accepted Answer

Yes. OpenTS supports up to 8 players. You can host a game on your own PC. PlayBound Connect handles the setup: start a party with your friends, pick how you want to play, and everyone launches into the same game from the PlayBound launcher. It also supports LAN play. There is no subscription and no paid multiplayer tier.
