Question 1

Is Soldier of Fortune: Platinum Edition free?

Accepted Answer

No. This is the paid, DRM-free GOG release. Each player needs their own copy.

Question 2

Can friends play online?

Accepted Answer

Yes, through LAN or direct IP. The GOG release does not restore the original matchmaking service; use an address or a PlayBound virtual LAN party.

Question 3

How many people can join?

Accepted Answer

The original PC manual allows up to 32 clients and recommends 16 for better network performance. A particular host may set a lower cap.

Question 4

Does it support a controller?

Accepted Answer

There is no native full gamepad support in the GOG PC release. A PlayBound keyboard-and-mouse mapping is in testing and should not be treated as verified until a live playtest.

Question 5

Can PlayBound host a dedicated server?

Accepted Answer

The 1.07f engine supports dedicated servers, but a PlayBound VPS room requires licensed game data and a tested server install. It is not ready for public hosting yet.

Question 6

How much space do I need?

Accepted Answer

GOG lists 1 GB of free storage. Its current offline installer is approximately 497 MB; leave room for the installed files and saves.

Question 7

Does Soldier of Fortune: Platinum Edition have multiplayer?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Soldier of Fortune: Platinum Edition supports up to 32 players. You can have PlayBound start a dedicated server for your group and host a game on your own PC. It also supports LAN play.
