Question 1

Is Unvanquished free?

Accepted Answer

Yes, entirely. Unvanquished is open-source with no purchases, cosmetics or advertising.

Question 2

What kind of game is Unvanquished?

Accepted Answer

An asymmetric FPS/RTS hybrid. Humans use projectile weapons and build a base of turrets and support structures; aliens use melee and wall-climbing and evolve into larger forms. Both sides depend on construction and resource control, not just combat.

Question 3

Is Unvanquished related to Tremulous?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Unvanquished is a spiritual successor to Tremulous, keeping the asymmetric humans-versus-aliens design while running on a substantially more modern engine.

Question 4

Can I play Unvanquished alone?

Accepted Answer

Not satisfyingly. Bot support exists but is limited, and the game depends on coordinated teams on populated servers. It is a multiplayer game first and foremost.

Question 5

How many players does Unvanquished have?

Accepted Answer

The population is small — the smallest in the PlayBound catalog. Check the Unvanquished servers page for live counts before setting aside an evening for it.

Question 6

Does Unvanquished have multiplayer?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Unvanquished supports up to 32 players. You can join a public community server from the PlayBound server browser, have PlayBound start a dedicated server for your group, and host a game on your own PC. PlayBound Connect handles the setup: start a party with your friends, pick how you want to play, and everyone launches into the same game from the PlayBound launcher, with the dedicated server started for you if you choose one. There is no subscription and no paid multiplayer tier.
