Question 1

Is Veloren free?

Accepted Answer

Yes, entirely. Veloren is open-source under GPL-3.0 with no purchases, subscriptions, cosmetics or account requirement.

Question 2

Is Veloren finished?

Accepted Answer

No, and it does not claim to be. Veloren is pre-1.0 and under very active development. Progression systems and combat balance change between releases and worlds are occasionally reset. What exists is enjoyable, but it is a game in progress.

Question 3

Can I host my own Veloren server?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Self-hosting is fully supported and free, with no account or licence required, which makes it a good option for a small private world with friends.

Question 4

Is Veloren like Minecraft?

Accepted Answer

It shares the voxel aesthetic but is a different game. Veloren is an action RPG focused on exploration, real-time combat and character progression rather than free-form building.

Question 5

What are Veloren's system requirements?

Accepted Answer

A dedicated GPU is recommended for comfortable frame rates, alongside a quad-core CPU and 8 GB of RAM. It is more demanding than most games in this catalog.

Question 6

Does Veloren have multiplayer?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Veloren has multiplayer. You can join a public community server from the PlayBound server browser, have PlayBound start a dedicated server for your group, and host a game on your own PC. PlayBound Connect handles the setup: start a party with your friends, pick how you want to play, and everyone launches into the same game from the PlayBound launcher, with the dedicated server started for you if you choose one. It also supports co-op play and cross-play. There is no subscription and no paid multiplayer tier.
