Lo Wang's original 1997 ninja shootout, permanently free — base game plus both expansions.
That One Thing
It's the full base game plus both expansion packs, permanently free, with no catch.
Shadow Warrior came out in 1997 riding the same Build engine as Duke Nukem 3D, and it never pretends to be anything other than that lineage's ninja-themed cousin: fast, violent, aggressively unserious, and built around a protagonist — Lo Wang — who narrates his own rampage with a one-liner after almost every kill. You're a former bodyguard for a corrupt zaibatsu chairman, betrayed and out for revenge across a campaign that moves through corporate offices, temples, and increasingly strange dimensional rifts, picking up a genuinely wide arsenal along the way: a katana for melee, shuriken and throwing wedges, a riot gun, a rocket launcher, and a guardian head grenade launcher that's exactly as tasteless as it sounds.
What holds up surprisingly well is the level design's willingness to break its own rules. Environments are destructible in ways Doom and Duke Nukem weren't — walls come down, cover disappears mid-fight — and several levels hand you a drivable vehicle instead of just a bigger gun. It's not subtle: enemies telegraph loudly, the humor lands somewhere between 'genuinely funny' and 'extremely 1997,' and nobody involved was trying to make a mature statement about anything. But the pacing is relentless in a way a lot of contemporaries weren't, and the weapon variety means the moment-to-moment combat rarely goes stale across the full campaign.
This Complete package is the whole picture: the base campaign plus both expansion packs, Wanton Destruction and Twin Dragon, which add new levels and enemies rather than reusing assets wholesale. Devolver Digital made the entire bundle permanently free on GOG and Steam years ago — no catch, no time limit, no upsell to a 'remastered' paid version.
We picked it because free-and-permanent is rarer than it sounds, and because a 1997 Build-engine shooter with this much personality is worth more shelf space than the algorithm usually gives it. If you've played Duke Nukem 3D and want the sibling game nobody talks about as much, this is it.
We picked Shadow Warrior Classic Complete because Devolver Digital's decision to make the entire base game and both expansions permanently free deserves more visibility than a 1997 Build-engine shooter usually gets, and because it's a genuinely fun, fast FPS on its own terms, not just a nostalgia curiosity.

No — GOG's release is a modernized source-port build that runs directly on Windows 10/11.
The original had a small deathmatch mode, but this release is set up and supported here as a singleplayer campaign experience.
