That One Thing
It’s the sheer thrill of stepping into a fully realized, modern 3D cockpit in the Wing Commander universe and realizing you're completely on your own. Instead of taking orders from military brass, you’re sitting in dirty spaceport bars picking up shady cargo runs, upgrading your beat-up ship piece by piece, and carving out your own life in the lawless Gemini Sector.
OpenPrivateer is a from-scratch SDL3 reimplementation of Wing Commander: Privateer that reads the original 1993 game data directly, keeping the 320x200 look and authentic behavior while running natively on modern Windows. It is a public alpha: it ships no game assets, so you point its launcher at the data files from your own copy of Wing Commander: Privateer (and Righteous Fire, optionally).
