Pure hockey skill, with no shoot button and nowhere to hide.
That One Thing
Every clean touch feels earned because the puck is never glued to your stick.
Slapshot: Rebound earns a PlayBound testing slot with fair free-to-play hockey, sharp physics and a skill ceiling worth chasing.
Worth the cost
Free, or regularly available for $15 or less. Good developers deserve to be paid, and optional cosmetics, expansions, and premium extras are welcome. But we won't list games that sell competitive advantages, disguise a trial as free, or charge again to finish the core experience.
Ready to play
Playable and satisfying today. It can be unfinished; it cannot be unfun. We love supporting indie developers, but prototypes, broken releases, and promises of a future game do not make the cut.
Tested by PlayBound
We install it, launch it, and play it ourselves. We've spent hours building definitive editions and making multiplayer work, because a store-page claim is not the same as a game we can confidently put in front of you.
That One Thing
Every game needs that one thing we'd excitedly tell our friends about. It might be the mechanics, story, art, soundtrack, controls, community, or the way it brings people together. If it doesn't have one, it doesn't make the catalog.

Slapshot: Rebound is hockey reduced to the parts that feel best in your hands. There is no canned shooting animation and no invisible magnet keeping the puck attached to your player. You skate, angle the stick, receive a pass and create the shot yourself. That makes the opening hour clumsy in an honest way, then increasingly satisfying as positioning and timing begin to click.
The main game is compact 3v3 hockey, built for solo matchmaking or a premade line. Custom games can stretch to twelve players, while training modes provide a quiet place to work on shooting, movement and puck control. The Pond is a lower-pressure social space for passing around, practicing or killing time between queues. It is a smart package: enough structure to teach the game, with room for players and community leagues to take it seriously.
We especially like the business model. Slapshot is free, competitive power stays on the ice, and the paid layer is cosmetic. The result is easy to recommend to a friend without a pricing footnote. Expect a real learning curve and occasional awkward physics; this is not the hockey equivalent of pressing one button and watching a highlight reel. Bring two patient teammates, communicate, and the rough first shifts turn into wonderfully readable team play.
We picked Slapshot because it removes the usual sports-game assists and leaves the good part: reading the rink with friends. Matches are quick, mistakes are legible, cosmetics do not buy power, and a coordinated three-player line can produce the kind of improvised play we want from a party game.
