OpenBOR Konami arcade co-op — four pads, CPU partners, zero store price.
That One Thing
A four-pad scramble across Magneto's goons still feels like an arcade cabinet
This is a fantastic remake with real QOL upgrades like CPU controlled allies
Worth the cost
Free, or regularly available for $15 or less. Good developers deserve to be paid, and optional cosmetics, expansions, and premium extras are welcome. But we won't list games that sell competitive advantages, disguise a trial as free, or charge again to finish the core experience.
Ready to play
Playable and satisfying today. It can be unfinished; it cannot be unfun. We love supporting indie developers, but prototypes, broken releases, and promises of a future game do not make the cut.
Tested by PlayBound
We install it, launch it, and play it ourselves. We've spent hours building definitive editions and making multiplayer work, because a store-page claim is not the same as a game we can confidently put in front of you.
That One Thing
Every game needs that one thing we'd excitedly tell our friends about. It might be the mechanics, story, art, soundtrack, controls, community, or the way it brings people together. If it doesn't have one, it doesn't make the catalog.

X-Men Arcade Remake is ZVitor's free OpenBOR tribute to Konami's early-90s X-Men arcade beat 'em up. You pick mutants, smash through stages that still want to be unfair, and fill the screen with specials the way a crowded cab would. Sprites pull from several eras of X-Men games — arcade uniforms mixed with SNES, Genesis, and GBA looks — then sanded into one readable OpenBOR cast.
Co-op is the point. Up to four players share one machine. When you cannot fill every seat, CPU partners tag along so a lone Wolverine is not stuck walking the campaign alone. Controllers are first-class; this is an arcade remake, not a mouse-aimed action game.
It is also a fangame. Marvel and Konami did not publish it. PlayBound lists it as freeware fan work distributed by ZVitor (Game Jolt XMKO), not as an official product. We host a PlayBound Windows package for one-click install after you upload the zip — we do not claim Marvel licensing.
Online is honest: OpenBOR here has no native netcode. Friends who are not in the room use PlayBound Couch / phone-as-controller so remote pads appear as local players on the host PC. That is the same path as other local-only remakes in the catalog. If you want separate processes talking over UDP, this is not OpenTyrian.
We carry it because free OpenBOR arcade co-op still scratches an itch Steam's licensed beat 'em ups often price or lock behind accounts — and because couch mode finally gives that Parsec complaint a PlayBound-shaped answer without lying about netplay.
We picked X-Men Arcade Remake because it is a finished, free OpenBOR co-op remake that still wants four pads on one screen. PlayBound can install it in one click once the package is hosted, and Couch mode covers the friends who cannot sit on the same couch — without inventing online netcode the engine does not have.

Yes. OpenBOR binds pads natively for up to four local players. PlayBound does not rewrite a config file.
